JCL (Junior Classical League)

The Junior Classical League (JCL) at De Smet Jesuit High School promotes an interest in and an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of Classical antiquity through a board variety of fun and educational activities and service opportunities which allow faculty and students to interact, discuss, and learn.

  • - Organization of bi-annual language clubs soccer game & pizza party
  • - Annual Ted Drewes sales as fundraise for all Latin students to take the National Latin Exam
  • - Monday afternoon tutoring
  • - Annual creation and production of original JCL t-shirt
  • - Participation in Christmas on Campus (Provide materials and direction for children to create ornaments)
  • - Membership in and adherence to National JCL and Missouri JCL
  • - attending conventions when possible
  • - Attendance at lectures given by Washington University and the Missouri chapter of the Archaeological Institute of America
  • - Annual attendance at the St. Nicholas Greekfest
  • - Participation in Culture Fest at De Smet
  • - Classics-themed movies after school at De Smet
  • - (for 2015-2016) Development of De Smet Jesuit Latin Club Twitter account
  • - (for 2015-2016) Bring a Latin mass to De Smet morning mass in the chapel
