Faith That Does Justice - 50+ Years of Diversity and Inclusion Work
Catalina Martinez, cmartinez@desmet.org

Although it has taken varying forms over several decades, De Smet Jesuit has always had a commitment to justice. In a collaborative project that included current and former faculty, staff, and students, we created a timeline highlighting the work of many individuals who have advanced the diversity, equity and inclusion work at our school over the decades.

From our first African-American graduates, to our work training senior leaders, to our recruitment of families who represent the diversity in our region, to community conversations, to faculty and student workshops, and to the formation of affinity groups, our commitment has evolved to meet the need of the times and the needs of our students.

Although our work is far from done, we can be proud of the fact that social justice is something that we live, not just preach, at De Smet Jesuit.
