Dr. Daniel Zepp, President of De Smet Jesuit High School, announced the appointment of Tim Canavan as Head Baseball Coach on June 9, 2021. “Coach Canavan is a championship coach, and dedicated teacher and mentor of young men,” he said. “He has demonstrated excellence on the field, in the classroom, and in the community, and we are thrilled to have him lead our baseball program.”
Coach Canavan also joins the De Smet Jesuit faculty as a math teacher.
Coach Canavan, who brings 19 years of coaching experience to De Smet Jesuit, was most recently an assistant baseball coach for Lindenwood University, responsible for coaching catchers, assisting with the offensive development of all hitters, recruiting student-athletes, and managing the program’s social media accounts. Prior to his tenure at Lindenwood, Coach Canavan was Head Baseball Coach at Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School (MICDS) for four seasons, leading the Rams to the 2016 state championship, the first in school history, and compiling an overall record of 61-38. He also taught math at MICDS.
Coach Canavan’s experience includes helping his players successfully navigate the college recruitment process, including 14 players in four years at MICDS, and more than 60 players in three years for the St. Louis Pirates Baseball Club.
"I feel very fortunate to join the De Smet Jesuit community, and I hope to build upon the tradition of excellence for which Spartan baseball is known,” said Coach Canavan. “I’m looking forward to working with student-athletes in the classroom and on the field.”
Coach Canavan holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lindenwood University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
