De Smet Jesuit High School announces the appointment of Harold Barker as Athletic Director.
Mr. Barker is a familiar face at De Smet Jesuit. He served as Assistant Athletic Director as well as a math and science teacher for the school from 2017-2020. He comes to De Smet from Saint Louis Priory School, where he currently serves as Director of Athletics and a faculty member in the math department. His experience also includes 18 years at Whitfield School as math and science teacher as well as a head coach for golf and basketball. During his tenure at Whitfield, he was honored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) as the 2012 Missouri High School Girls Golf Coach of the Year.
“I am excited for this opportunity to return to De Smet Jesuit. I look forward to reconnecting with coaches and faculty and will strive to forge strong relationships within the community,” Mr. Barker said. “I am eager to build and implement a mission-driven, world-class athletic experience for the students of De Smet Jesuit as they grow into men for others. I am thankful to everyone at Saint Louis Priory School for all of their support as I navigated my initial years as an athletic director though the pandemic.”
“We are thrilled to have an athletic administrator and educator of Mr. Barker’s caliber return to our school community,” said Kevin Poelker, principal. “We look forward to partnering with him to ensure the excellence of De Smet Jesuit’s athletic program for years to come.”
Mr. Barker holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis as well as a Master of Science in Athletic Administration from Ohio University.
He will begin his tenure at De Smet Jesuit this summer, following the retirement of the current Athletic Director, John Pukala.
