De Smet Jesuit’s Board of Trustees has appointed Daniel Zepp as the school’s next president. His selection follows a national search process that began in the summer of 2020 and was led by educational search firm, Carney, Sandoe & Associates. Dr. Zepp was the unanimous choice of the President’s Search Committee.
“Daniel Zepp is a visionary and charismatic leader, with a solid background in Jesuit education,” stated Board Chair Greg Pohlman ’78 and Search Committee Chair Chrissy Nardini in their announcement to the De Smet Jesuit community. Dr. Zepp’s vision for Catholic, liberal arts education has been shaped by more than 14 years of experience teaching, advising, and counseling students, including nine years of experience consulting, strategically planning, and assessing mission and identity with administrators and faculty at middle, secondary, and postsecondary levels.
“I have been formed and transformed personally, academically, professionally, and spiritually through Jesuit education and Ignatian spirituality,” said Dr. Zepp. “It is with great pride and enthusiasm that I take what I've learned throughout my career in secondary schools, Jesuit education, and my doctoral research on the faith development of young men, to deepen the already outstanding work that occurs at De Smet Jesuit each day.”
Dr. Zepp is originally from Louisville, Kentucky, where he attended St. Xavier High School. He received a football scholarship to Boston College, where he earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education, an M.A. in Pastoral Ministry, and a B.S. in Management. Dr. Zepp is a published author and his doctoral research focused on the faith development of young men. He currently serves as the Interim President of Resurrection College Prep High School, an all-girls, Lasallian Catholic school in Chicago, Illinois. Preceding his appointment at Resurrection, he served as President and Director of Advancement of St. Petersburg Catholic High School in St. Petersburg, Florida.
“With a strong history, legacy, and proud tradition, the time is now for De Smet Jesuit to be bold and to imagine an even brighter future ahead,” said Dr. Zepp. “I am honored and humbled to lead De Smet Jesuit in its next chapter.”
Dr. Zepp will begin his tenure on July 1, 2021. Students, faculty, staff, parents, and alumni look forward to welcoming him and his wife, Avila, to the De Smet Jesuit community.
