Giving Tuesday is a global day of philanthropy that occurs on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Social media channels are the primary avenues for giving and providing updates on progress throughout the day. All contributions made on Giving Tuesday benefit The Spartan Fund, which supports all aspects of our students’ experience, including tuition assistance.
For the third consecutive year, alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends rallied to support De Smet Jesuit’s Giving Tuesday campaign, contributing a record-setting $116,400 in just 24 hours. Over 350 donors pledged and made gifts on December 3, 2019.
This year, the De Smet Jesuit community was invited to share their reasons for supporting the school using #IGiveBecause. Messages on De Smet’s social media channels showcased some of the many student experiences that gifts to The Spartan Fund support – from 3-D printers to robotics, from theatre to athletics, and so much more.
An anonymous $30,000 matching gift challenge from a proud alumnus and Spartan family propelled giving early in the day. Alumni representing five decades helped us cross the finish line that evening by calling classmates from the Innovation Center.
“The tremendous response was a truly humbling and inspiring experience,” said Jeff Cernicek ’92, Director of Development. “There were countless examples of our De Smet Jesuit community coming together to embrace and support our mission. We are grateful for your generosity and hope that you will take great pride in the important difference that your gifts make for our young men.”
