Cura Personalis

At De Smet Jesuit, student support is rooted in the Jesuit value of cura personalis—care for the whole person. Our counseling services address each student’s academic, personal, emotional, and post-graduation needs through individualized attention and a supportive, faith-based approach. Whether a student is navigating classroom challenges, exploring college options, or facing a personal crisis, our team is here to walk with him every step of the way.

Academic Counseling

Guidance for Academic Growth

Our academic counselors work one-on-one with students to help them stay organized, balanced, and on track for success. We assist with course selection, academic planning, and study strategies while serving as a bridge between students, parents, and teachers. The goal is to support each student’s unique learning style and help him build the skills to thrive across all subjects.

Personal Counseling

A Safe Space for Support

Licensed counselors are available on campus to support students navigating personal or emotional challenges. Whether it’s stress, anxiety, grief, or peer-related concerns, our team provides a safe and confidential space for students to be heard and supported. Counseling services are available by appointment and are open to all students in need of personal guidance.

College Counseling

Planning for What Comes Next

Our college counseling program begins early and builds throughout a student’s time at De Smet Jesuit. Counselors help students discover their strengths, explore career interests, and navigate the college search process with confidence. From ACT prep to scholarship applications and personalized essay feedback, we support each student’s path—whether it leads to college, trade school, the military, or beyond.

With a focus on finding the right fit, we guide students and families through every step of the college journey.

CARE TEAM

The CARE Team is a collaborative group of counselors, administrators, and campus ministers who respond to students in moments of crisis or concern. This team is activated when a student is struggling socially, emotionally, or mentally and may benefit from immediate support or intervention.

Anyone in the school community—teachers, students, coaches, or parents—can submit a referral to connect a student with care.

Student Learning Center

De Smet Jesuit’s Learning Center is staffed by two dedicated learning consultants who work closely with students, families, and faculty to ensure that every student with documented educational needs receives the full benefits of a De Smet Jesuit education.

Our consultants support students diagnosed with educational disabilities by collaborating with the Special School District of St. Louis County to develop Individualized Service Plans (ISPs). They also partner with teachers to ensure that accommodations—such as extended testing time, preferential seating, or alternative testing environments—are implemented effectively. Many instructional accommodations are already embedded in our teaching practices, including the use of multisensory strategies that support diverse learning needs.
