DE SMET JESUIT VARSITY WRESTLINGSpartan Wrestling Lifestyle
At De Smet Jesuit High School, we are dedicated to the growth and development of our young men through extra-curricular activities. On the wrestling team, we believe that “being a wrestler” is a lifestyle, and that nothing better prepares young men for success in life than the lessons received from wrestling. We have four core beliefs which define our programs values and expectations for our young men. These core beliefs will allow our young men to be successful on the mat, in the classroom, and in life.
Respect is at the core of what it takes to be successful in our sport. You must respect your teammates, coaches, opponents, referees, and most importantly, yourself. Some of the most difficult decisions in life are answered by stating, “Do I respect myself enough to get through this?”
Toughness is paramount in this sport, but this entails much more than just “physical toughness.” The ability to be mentally and spiritually tough is what makes great wrestlers, and successful people in life.
A strong work-ethic is vitally important in life. We must be willing to work hard, regardless of circumstance. The ability to out-work those around you leads to success.
In life, you must finish, and finish well. It can be difficult to finish, and the steps may be arduous. When we have the ability to finish what we start we gain an essential aspect of what makes young men successful.
