Program Philosophy & History
The De Smet Jesuit Tennis Program boasts a proud tradition of excellence! In addition to the banners hanging in the gymnasium representing two State Championships, our program has always ranked as one of the premier programs in the St. Louis area. In recent history, the Tennis Spartans have finished at or near the top of their District every year and have been well-represented at the State Level, as well as in the perennially-strong Metro Catholic Conference against rivals Chaminade and SLUH, as well as Vianney and CBC!
The De Smet Tennis Program is proud to be able to field a team of three levels – Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshmen, all with their respective schedule of matches. We have three full-time Coaches who are on staff at De Smet to lead these teams. The De Smet Tennis Teams practice near the school in the Creve Coeur area; however, there are plans to have our own courts soon.
Every student at De Smet Jesuit is eligible to try out for the De Smet Tennis Team in the spring of the year. The program can accommodate 10-12 players at each level, and every player is given an opportunity to show his skills and become a part of the team. It is strongly recommended for those interested in trying out for the De Smet Tennis Team to prepare in the off-season by working on their game and improving their overall skill level.
