Baseball
Since its inception, the De Smet Jesuit baseball program has been considered among the state's elite. It has been to 8 Final Fours and won 2 state championships.
The team competes in one of state's most competitive conferences, the Metro Catholic Conference (MCC), and seeks to play as challenging a schedule as possible each year. In 2024, the baseball stadium was upgraded to one of top fields in the area by putting in a artificial turf infield and new outfield wall.
With great championship teams come championship-caliber players (and coaches).
The baseball program has produced many notable alumni including former and current big leaguers
Bob Keppel - 36th overall pick in 2000 by the Mets
Bill Mueller - Drafted by Giants in 1993 winning the 2003 AL Batting title, 2003 AL Silver Slugger, and won the world series in 2004 with the Red Sox
Erik Miller - Drafted by Phillies in 2019 - currently pitches for the Giants
Michael Plassmeyer - Drafted by Mariners in 2018
Notable alums also include Tennessee Volunteers head coach Tony Vitello who has won multiple coach of the year awards and led the Volunteers to the 2024 College World Series Championship
