Ice Hockey
History and Philosophy
As a founding member of the Mid-States Club Hockey Association beginning with the 1971-72 season, De Smet Jesuit takes great pride in our long tradition of hockey excellence as we begin our 49th season in 2019 - 2020. Over this span, De Smet Jesuit has won 14 state championships and has finished in the final four 33 times. Championships were won in 1972, 1976, 1978, 1980, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2010. Varsity Head Chris Durso and the rest of the coaching staff are committed to maintaining and building on this tradition of excellence.
With this long tradition of winning also comes a commitment to the program’s core values, including developing the young men to their fullest potential both on and off the ice. This commitment includes dedication to teaching and learning self-discipline, hard work, dedication, individual sacrifice for the betterment of the team, and respect for teammates, the game, and the officials. The coaching staff, the team, and its players recognize that they represent De Smet Jesuit High School at all times and live the “men for others” credo both on and off the ice.
