Patience
Ryan Allgeier

In this assignment, we were asked to create our own digital painting design style in Photoshop based off a photo we chose. I always wanted to work on painting a landscape because being able to replicate that is really hard to do, especially when it involves representing water. I also wanted to paint something less intense; so when looking at it, I would feel relaxed. I feel I replicated that pretty well. When I was designing this, I had to put in a lot of time and patience. I started slowly outlining the entire photograph with a thicker line to define the guy, the boat, the outline of the trees, and then added smaller details later with thinner lines. When I was adding color, I tried matching the lighting of my original photograph, but used a more distinct color swatch for each shape so it would look more graphic and less realistic. The water took the most time because I tried to make it look as if were moving, like in the photo. I ended up adding more lines and color variation to give it the appearance of motion. I feel as if this assignment really helped me put time and effort into my artwork. Realizing if I did that, my skills would really show and I would feel much more accomplished.
