Two seniors selected for District Honors Choir
CHORUS
The vocal music program at De Smet Jesuit High School offers a variety of opportunities for young musicians to develop their skills in a fun and supportive environment.
Picture football players, lacrosse players, and basketball players standing on the risers in choir next to the lead in the school musical. Thanks to Mr. Sherrock they all found their “voice” in the chorus. And when you’re provided that type of environment, you naturally can grow as a person. De Smet Jesuit Chorus is open to all and no audition is required.
Advanced Chorus can be taken after successful completion of De Smet Jesuit Chorus or with the approval of the director, Mr. Sherrock. The Black Robe, our select ensemble, is a group of highly-motivated vocalists who form a tightly knit ensemble while earning honors credit. Motivated students have the chance to participate in the St. Louis Metro 8 All-District Honors Choir and the opportunity to audition for the Missouri All-State Choir.
All choirs tour St. Louis at Christmas and in the spring, entertaining audiences at grade schools, retirement homes, and other high schools. The choirs also provide music for school Masses, and often sing the National Anthem at home games.
From Mass to the ballgame, our choir shares their gift.
Open to students who have little or no singing experience.
Students will become familiar with and utilize various programs including Finale (for notation), Ear Master (for ear training), Pro Tools (for recording, mixing and mastering), and Reason (for studio and audio production).
This junior and senior elective course is for students who are interested in music and willing to consider the valuable role it plays in our lives.
