Participating in the student exchange program was such a great experience for our family that we did it twice! We enjoyed the friendship of our exchange students and learning about the culture and life experiences of teenagers from Taiwan, which were completely different than the experience of our sons. That exposure alone was worth participating in the program. The opportunity for our sons to learn was only outpaced by roles they played interacting our exchange students as teachers and friends. Each day our sons were called upon to explain a lot of aspects of life in America and in St. Louis. It was fun to watch. As we hoped, our exchange students embraced American culture, St. Louis, De Smet Jesuit, and our sons. They participated in family and school activities and appreciated time with our family and our sons’ friends. They attended De Smet sporting and social events, they participated in CYC sports, and they were engaging around the dinner table. They fit in well with our family and the De Smet community. In the end, they were very appreciative of the opportunity that our family provided them. It was a great experience and one we would recommend to others.
