NON-CATHOLIC FAMILIES
Welcoming to students on different faith journeys
Jesuit schools are known for welcoming individuals from a variety of faith backgrounds.
There are a number of students currently at De Smet Jesuit, plus many graduates, who are not Catholic. Some students and families choose De Smet Jesuit for something other than faith formation:
- our service program,
- top-tier academics,
- athletics and sportsmanship,
- brotherhood among students,
- overall culture, or
- genuine relationships formed with teachers who care for the individual students.
All students take theology classes at De Smet Jesuit, and all students participate in service projects. While the theology classes and retreats are rooted in De Smet’s Catholic, Jesuit tradition, one does not need to be Catholic to benefit from participating. Our school traditions such as class retreats (from El Camino to Kairos) and senior year capstone projects (called Insignis) give students a deeper understanding of themselves, their classmates, and the world for which they are being prepared.
If you have any questions about life as a Spartan who is not Catholic, please contact our Admissions Team.
Some families appreciate De Smet Jesuit because it allows students to pray at school.
