Accessibility

Our Standard

To guide our work, we follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 and aim for Level AA conformance across our site. WCAG is organized under the principles of Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust, with testable success criteria at Levels A, AA, and AAA. W3C+1

What We’re Doing

  • Design & Development: We build and update pages to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

  • Testing: We use a mix of automated scans and manual reviews with keyboard-only navigation and screen readers. We prioritize issues that impact task completion (e.g., navigation, forms, media).

  • Training: Our web team receives ongoing accessibility training and reviews changes against WCAG 2.2 “Understanding” guidance.

How We’re Doing

We work continuously to maintain Level AA across new and existing content. If you discover an accessibility issue, please let us know—your feedback helps us improve.

Known Limitations

While we strive for full compliance, some content may have issues:

  • Legacy PDFs and documents that lack full tagging.

  • Third-party embeds (e.g., forms, video players, maps) that we do not control but will advocate to improve or provide accessible alternatives.
If you need an accessible version of any content, contact us and we’ll help promptly.

Compatibility & Assistive Technology

Our site is designed to work with modern browsers and assistive technologies. We recommend using the latest versions of your browser and screen reader for the best experience. (WCAG 2.2 encourages compatibility across user agents and assistive tech.)

Alternative Access & Section 508

When feasible, we align with relevant U.S. laws and guidance (e.g., Section 508) in addition to WCAG.

Feedback & Contact

If you enjoyed using the De Smet Jesuit website, or if you had trouble with any part of it, please get in touch. We respond to accessibility-related messages as quickly as possible.

Assessment Approach

We evaluate accessibility through:

  • Routine audits before major releases and at least annually,

  • Automated checks paired with human review,

  • Issue tracking and remediation SLAs prioritized by user impact.

Statement Updates

We review this statement as standards evolve (e.g., WCAG 2.2) and update our practices accordingly.  Last updated: August 12, 2025
