De Smet Summer Sport Camps

Grade School Summer Camps - 2012

Below is a listing of De Smet Jesuit's summer athletic camp dates for 2012.
Check back often, as we will be adding information and registration forms as they become available.


Baseball

June 18-21 8:30 - 11 a.m.Grades 5-8

  • Instruction is designed to help improve baseball knowledge and skills.
  • Participants will receive instruction on hitting, pitching, catching mechanics, base running and fielding.
  • Participants will be grouped according to ability.
  • Equipment needed will be comfortable baseball attire: T-shirt, shorts, sweats, along with baseball shoes or tennis shoes. You will need your glove and favorite bat.
  • Bring water or your favorite drink for break times.
  • There are no team discounts; however there is a reduced rate for family members. The second child from an immediate family is half price.

 

Basketball

  • Camp emphasizes the fundamentals of basketball. The morning is spent on individual skills such as shooting, rebounding, dribbling and ball handling. The afternoon emphasizes team skills and competition.
  • Each day features shooting competitions and campers of the day awards for each division.
  • You may bring your lunch or buy it in the cafeteria.
  • Each camper will receive a reversible jersey to wear to camp each day.
  • Camp is run by De Smet Jesuit coaches, current and former Spartan players
  • All camps will be conducted at De Smet and St. Monica.


Football

Skills taught in camp:

  • Offensive and defensive stance, run and pass techniques
  • Ball handling skills, quarterback, running backs and defensive ball skills
  • Blocking - drive, down, pass, pulling, double team etc.
  • Tackling - form, open field, angle
  • Passing and Receiving skills
  • Place kicking and punting skills
  • 7-on-7 games played in a week long tournament
  • Cleats are optional, but recommended


 

Hockey

Lacrosse

  • Camp is designed to be an introduction to the fundamentals of lacrosse.
  • Only sticks are needed -- No additional equipment is required. If you do not have a lacrosse stick, you can order one with your registration for $40, and it will be waiting for you at camp.
  • Time will be spent on passing, catching, shooting, cradling, defensive positioning and ground
    balls.
  • Coaches will also teach team concepts in the form of competition.

 

Track & Field

  • Camp fees include a tee-shirt, pizza party lunch the last day of camp, drinks and
    snacks every day.
  • The goal is to introduce boys to all areas of track and field so that they can learn the fundamentals off all of the events associated with track and field in the state of Missouri.
  • Camp participants will learn and participate in eight events taught by the De Smet varsity coaching staff and demonstrated by current or former varsity athletes.
  • Camp participants should come dressed appropriately to participate every day in comfortable
    athletic shoes, shorts and shirt.
  • Each participant will learn about two events per day, and Friday will be a friendly competition against the other boys in their grade level to demonstrate the skills they have learned.
  • Events to be covered:
    1. Sprints - emphasis on starts, form, and race energy distribution.
    2. Distance - emphasis on racing strategy
    3. High Jump
    4. Long Jump
    5. Low Hurdles
    6. Shot Put
    7. Discus
    8. Relays - emphasis on handoffs


 

Soccer

June 11-14 9 - 11 a.m.Grades 5-8

  • Camp is designed to meet the needs of players from beginners to advanced.
  • Emphasis is placed on shooting, heading, receiving and ball touch.
  • Tactical training will be taught in 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, and 3 vs. 2 situations.
  • Equipment needed is just comfortable soccer attire: T-shirt, shorts, sweats, soccer or other athletic shoes.
  • Soccer balls will be provided. It is suggested that you not bring a ball.
  • Bring your favorite drink for water breaks.

 

Ultimate Frisbee

June 11-15 6 - 8 p.m.Grades 6-8

  • Utlimate Frisbee is a burgeoning sport at De Smet Jesuit.
  • Four time state champs, the team is competitive on a national level, recently traveling to Seattle, Chicago and Atlanta.
  • This camp will introduce rising 6th-8th graders to the sport, basic disc skills, its unique rules, and sportsmanship.
  • Camp will be held at De Smet Jesuit's stadium
  • Campers will receive hands on instruction from De Smet coaches, alumni and current players.
  • Camp fee includes a De Smet Jesuit disc and jersey.



 

Volleyball

July 23-26 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.Grades 5-8

  • This camp is designed to meet the needs of players from beginners to advanced.
  • Each day will focus on a different volleyball skill, starting with passing and moving into serving, hitting and blocking.
  • Camp will also involve a tournament to test and work on the skills discussed each day.
  • Equipment needed is comfortable volleyball attire: T-shirt, shorts, volleyball or
    other athletic shoes.
  • Volleyballs will be provided. It is suggested that you not bring a ball.
  • Bring your favorite drink for water breaks.
