Opening Prayer Service: "A Communal Examen on Our Use of Technology"Featured Speaker: Rev. Brian Christopher, S.J. | |
![]() | All are invited to join De Smet students, faculty and staff for the opening prayer service of #MissionWeek2012. This service will include student reflections, a performance by De Smet's chorus, and a keynote presentation by Fr. Brian Christopher via Skype from Belize City, Belize. Fr. Brian is a native of St. Louis, a 1993 graduate of SLUH as well as St. Louis University and Boston College. Father Christopher was ordained a Jesuit priest in 2009 and is currently working in Belize City to establish the Centre for Community Resource Development, a program that deters young people from joining gangs. Additionally, Fr. Christopher serves as an assistant to the Jesuit Provincial for Social Ministry, assists in parishes, and is a sought-after speaker on matters of social policy and faith. When asked recently why a priest would be involved in community development, Fr. Christopher responded: "We are all hungry for the Good News of the Kingdom, and this Good News comes in a variety of forms. In Belize, the Good News of the Reign of God would be a place where children are no longer victims of gun violence, where parents are able to provide food for their children and pay school fees, and where all people can see their own goodness and creativity. This is the vision of the Kingdom that the Centre for Community Resource Development is laboring to make real." |
