Science Department Course Descriptions
The Science Department of De Smet Jesuit High School provides students with seven course offerings: Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Physics, Advanced Placement Chemistry, Advanced Placement Biology, and Advanced Placement Physics. Students must take a minimum of three years of science to meet graduation requirements including Biology during freshmen year and Chemistry sophomore year.
The department teaches approximately 98% of the school's students in a given year. All courses are designed to be preparation for college-level with 13 of the 48 science sections being Honors courses. Ability grouping in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics is designed to challenge each student to learn to the fullness of his capabilities and interests.
