The Practical Arts Department at De Smet Jesuit High School is committed to providing students with the resources necessary to become reflective practitioners within a rigorous, student-centered learning environment. The department is committed to maintaining a curriculum that provides its students with tools to be productive, responsible, caring individuals who recognize and practice the Grad-at-Grad qualities both inside and outside the classroom.
Faculty in the department work to cultivate strong study skills, active learning, and responsible use technology, information, business applications, and media. Through on-going assessment of current trends in these areas, the faculty will seek to implement appropriate tools of evaluation that promote growth of both student learning and the department. A heavy emphasis is placed on personal accountability, cooperative learning, group work, and long-range, experiential projects to enhance students' understanding of subject matter.
