How much money should I give?
There is no required charitable donation; instead, families should spend time talking about what kind of contribution each student should make during Mission Week activities.
Where should the money come from?
Each student should give his own donation from money that he earns through an allowance, work, or gifts from family and friends. Students should challenge themselves to not merely give from their excess, and should think about giving in such a way that they could "go without" and join in solidarity with their friends on the margins.
What are different ways that I can get involved?
Participate, participate, participate! Challenge yourself to take the messages you hear to heart. The lobby will be filled the games; the gym, with spectators; and the cafeteria, with delicious food. Take this opportunity to have fun and to educate yourself about important issues.
What can I do outside school?
Discuss with your family and friends the charities supported by Mission Week contributions. Your education will be useless if you let it lie dormant. Read about the issues and follow Mission Week on Facebook and Twitter.
Where is the money going?
The money will be donated to numerous charities: the Jesuit missions in Belize, Honduras, and Haiti; St. Matthew's Parish in North St. Louis; and the charities chosen by online survey on De Smet's Moodle site.
How does Student Government select the charities?
Student Government does not. There is an online survey on De Smet's Moodle site. You have the opportunity and responsibility to support what is important to you by voting for your favored charities.
What does the money provide?
The money provides food, medicine, shelter, clean water, and money for utility bills for the missions.
How is the money being handled?
Every day, the money will be deposited according to De Smet Jesuit High School's cash policy.
