Alumni Mentor Program Seeks Volunteers

The Reverend Richard L. Bailey, S.J. Alumni Mentor Program launched its inaugural Alumni Mentor Lunch on October 6, 2010. The program is a collaborative effort between the De Smet Jesuit Alumni Association and the counseling department, and focuses on providing interested students with access to De Smet Jesuit alumni who have careers in areas of high interest.

The goal of the mentor program is to provide current students with a unique opportunity to be mentored by De Smet Jesuit alumni with experiences in a variety of career paths. The students meet with alumni approximately six times per year. Each meeting matches alumni from a particular profession with those students interested in that field. The mentors will discuss the work that they do and how they arrived at their chosen field, and will provide time for students to ask questions.

If you would like to share your experiences with a current senior please submit a volunteer form. Contact Mike Schmid '95, Matt Dulle '01 or Joe Wientge '98 for more information.

De Smet Jesuit White House Alumni Retreat: October 24-27, 2013

The De Smet Jesuit alumni who have made the White House retreats have greatly benefited from the experience. Many of you first experienced the White House while attending De Smet Jesuit. We would like to continue the tradition at De Smet Jesuit by encouraging fellow alumni to discover the White House retreat experience.

As the autumn unfolds in 2013, imagine taking a break from your house projects, hectic family schedules and grueling work schedule for a weekend to yourself. Picture yourself spending 3 days among acres of trees, nature trails, spectacular fall foliage and open meadows situated on bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. Close your eyes and listen to the barge traffic as it travels the river. Listen to the sounds of the trains as they travel along the bottom of the bluffs. Watch the sunrise over the Mississippi River and Illinois farmlands. Listen to and watch the birds and wildlife.

REGISTER on the White House website at www.whretreat.org or call Terri Bonebrake at 314-416-6400.
